Two Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill in the House of Representatives, calling for Taiwan There has been an appeal to restore formal diplomatic relations with the U.S. and to repeal the outdated and unproductive ‘one-China’ policy. Lawmakers Tom Tiffany and Scott Perry have introduced the bill, urging the Biden administration to support Taiwan’s membership in international organizations and negotiate with Taipei to reach a free trade agreement between the US and Taiwan.

Tiffany said, “For the past 40 years, the presidents of both parties in America have repeatedly repeated Beijing’s lie that Taiwan is part of communist China, while the actual truth is the opposite. This outdated policy needs to be changed.

The US had normal diplomatic relations with the government of Taiwan until 1979, but then-President Jimmy Carter abruptly ended formal relations with Taipei and recognized communist rule in China. China considers Taiwan a rebel province and wants to re-incorporate it into the mainland.
